DUCKS AND WHO ARE THEY

Remembering the days of being a kid near the lake.  One of the fun things I would do is call the ducks.  It would be  a quiet day at the park with nearly no one around.  Maybe just a couple of people taking a walk.  Realizing now at this point it life this could have been a pleasant moment of solitude.

Going to the end of the swimming/fishing dock the view of the lake was nearly complete.  I knew from times of feeding the ducks you could attract them by calling loudly duck duck duck.  Yes, it would signal to them that there was bread being thrown to them. I now know it is not the thing to do.

As a few close by ducks came to the dock others were attracted by the action.  More came.  More still.  Then it felt as though all the ducks on the lake were right in front of me.  I was an excited kid.  What a flurry of wings and splashing all because I called duck duck duck.

Now, as I look out at the lake I see there are types and colors that I know little about.  Curiosity is in me now and looking up the types of migrating waterfowl is almost as exciting as the days as a young boy at Steel Lake Park in Federal Way, but not quite.
